The Loop Over the Mid-Hudson Bridge

Instead of walking the length of the Walkway, then turning around and heading back, you can take a loop that returns over the Mid-Hudson Bridge.

I don't recommend this for the casual walker.

You must experience Franny Reese State Park-- next door to the WALKWAY.

Park at Johnson/Iorio Park which is north adjacent to the Mid-Hudson Bridge landing on the Highland side. Walk to the bridge 50 feet and take the stairs down to UNDER it. I didn't notice a helpful arrow or sign for Franny Reese Park at Johnson Iorio to help you get there. This really isn't an exhausting walk from the Walkway. And if you've already walked OVER the Hudson a few times you may want to try viewing it from a a different perspective. It is a bit of a walk up the first hillside to get the views but once there you will be astonished.

Help make fallen officer's memorial bench on The Walkway a reality.

MILTON, N.Y. The family and friends of fallen officer John Falcone have found to honor the 18-year police veteran. Falcone was killed in February 2011 while responding to a domestic dispute in Poughkeepsie near the train station. They are trying to keep his memory alive high above the Hudson Valley by raising money to have a memorial bench dedicated to him on the Walkway Over the Hudson. "John loved the river and his dad just thought a place to sit overlooking the river would be very fitting and also the bridge connects the east and west side of the river, where he lived then worked."
